The pavements in Sawyers Hall Lane have been widened to make it easier for people to pass at safe distances along the road.
The joint project between Essex County Council and South Essex Parking Partnership cost £36,500 with £16,500 from SEPP and £19,000 from the Brentwood LHP (local highways panel) topped up from Essex County Council.
Brentwood Borough Councillor Cllr Jon Cloke said; “There have long been difficulties for people along this road particularly around the Becket Keys side with students attending the school. We all had concerns about the safety there and this funding has ensured that the pavement in this stretch is now double the width it was before. The broader stretch now runs from the bottom of Sawyers Hall Lane all the way up to Highland Avenue.
Deputy Cabinet Member for Highways, Essex County Councillor Lesley Wagland said: “As chair of the Brentwood LHP, I was delighted at this great result from us all pulling together to get the money needed to undertake this vital work. It has made a huge difference and means that people can now walk much more safely in Sawyers Hall Lane.”
