A pledge to continue to support those most in need and businesses who have been struggling because of COVID was reinforced today by the Conservative led- County Council.
The commitments were made during the Full Council meeting of Essex County Council today (8th Dec. 2020) by Cllrs Louise McKinlay and Tony Ball. Ensuring no child goes hungry during winter and cared for with winter holiday camps, as well as funding local foodbanks was highlighted by Cllr McKinlay confirming that a total of £6 million pounds will be invested in those who need it the most.
Grants for small businesses who have struggled the most during COVID and who have to make adaptions to their companies, especially in catering and hospitality sector, have also been made available by ECC via local district councils. Again, a total of £2.2 million has been given to local councils so they can distribute to those firms who need urgent help.
Leader of the Council, Cllr David Finch, said: “We as Conservatives have and will continue to stand by everyone in our great county, especially those in the greatest need. Small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy and during the two national lockdowns many in the hospitality and catering industry have suffered. Thanks to the COVID grants we received from Government we have put money in the system to help them. I am proud of what we have achieved so far as an Administration but reflect that more needs to be done and we will continue to put the people of Essex first.”
During the meeting Cllr. John Spence also spoke about the importance of our communities and recognised that so many people from across the county have worked so hard to help to protect the most vulnerable. He also heralded the way the people of Essex, ECC staff and those of partners have responded to the pandemic and the way they continue to respond to the needs of others.
